Our office is open to the public from 8:00 AM until 5:00 PM, Monday through Friday.

The goal of the Coffee County Assessors Office is to provide the people of Coffee County with a web site that is easy to use. You can search our site for a wealth of information on any property in Coffee County.

The Exemption deadline to file for Homestead is April 1, 2024.
The deadline for Personal Property Tax Returns is April 1, 2024.
The deadline to file for Conservation Use, Preferential, and FLPA is April, 1 2024.

In accordance with the official Code of Georgia annotated 45-5-264.1, the Coffee County Board of Assessors must notify property owners prior to making a site visit. Notice is hereby given that a representative of the appraisal staff will review and inspect all properties that have changed ownership in the last twelve months, obtained a building permit for construction, made a return of value on the property, reported fire damage, demolition and or filed an appeal. These appraisal reviews may include measuring structures, listing construction information and photographing the subject property.

A majority of these field reviews will take place between January 1 and May 1 of the current year during normal business hours.

• Coffee County, was created in 1854 from parts of Clinch, Irwin, Telfair, and Ware counties. Georgia's 107th county was named for General John Coffee, who fought in the region's Indian wars and was a hero of the War of 1812.
• DeSoto's Spanish soldiers were probably the first Europeans to set foot in this area.
• Douglas was named for Stephen A. Douglas, Lincoln's opponent in the 1860 Presidential race.
• Coffee County is home to Broxton Rocks. These leopard-colored cliffs offer a botanist's dream of rare and endangered flora along with the largest and most dramatic outcrop of ancient sandstone anywhere on the coastal plain of the Southeastern U.S.
• General Coffee State Park is 1,490 acres of swimming, fishing, hiking, and camping. The park also features Pioneer Village, a 19th-century village complete with log cabins, chicken coop, smoke house, corn crib, and other exhibits.
• The county is part of the Wiregrass Region. This area encompasses the southern third of the state and is named for the "wiregrass" which grows among the tall Georgia pines.
• The second Saturday in November, Coffee County hosts Mule Day, a fall festival event including mule pulls, wagon rides, plow competitions, and more.
• Douglas, the county seat of Coffee County, was incorporated in 1895. The city was named for Stephen A. Douglas, the South's candidate for President against Lincoln in 1860.
• Historic Sites in Douglas include the Coffee County Bank, listed on the National Register of Historic Places, and the Veterans Memorial and Museum. There is also a driving tour of the downtown historical district of Douglas.
• Events that take place in Douglas include the Heritage Farm Festival, Wings Over South Georgia Air Show and Pioneer Skills Day.
• Douglas is home to South Georgia College, a two-year unit of the University System of Georgia, the state's first publicly supported junior college.
• According to 2000 Census, the City of Douglas had a population of 10,639 persons.
